Fluoroscopy
Fluoroscopy is an imaging technique that uses X-rays to provide real-time visuals of the area being examined that can be used in general or interventional radiology and image-guided procedures. It is often used to examine the patient's various body systems, including skeletal, digestive, urinary or reproductive, as well as organs such as the heart, lungs and kidneys. Fluoroscopy is commonly used to examine the intestines and large bowel, and is most often performed using a contrast agent - often barium-based - to make tissues and other structures more visible.
A fluoroscopy procedure provides movie-like X-rays to fully show the motion within the systems of the body. Similar procedures include MRI and CT scans diagnose issues with other aspects of the body, such as the bones or joints.

Fluoroscopy does utilize radiation to get its imaging, so patients should talk to their doctor about the risks involving this procedure, especially if pregnant.
Fluoroscopies are offered Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. by appointment at our main hospital campus.
